Nissan Versa S Hatchback 2008 Review
Some History:
The Nissan Versa is Nissan's new entry level car in the United States. It was released in the 2007 model year. It uses a MR series 1.8 liter DOHC inline-four engine (MR18DE) that produces 122 hp at 5500 rpm and 128 lbft (174 NM) of torque at 4800 rpm. It is coupled to either a 4+1 automatic, 6-speed manual or a CVT transmission. In the 2009 model year Nissan introduced a 1.6 liter (HR16DE) engine for the sedan, which is less powerful and you only get a choice of the 4-speed auto box or a 5-speed manual, but with better mileage. It is the only four-door Nissan in the United States to be sold worldwide.
The Looks:
The Versa's looks are not typical, some say it's ugly, some realy like the looks, judge that yourself, I personally like the looks of the Versa.
The Interior:
Despite the small size, inside the Versa is very spacious, there is as much legroom in the back as an Acura TL, which is a huge car, and about as much trunk space. It may not be the most luxurious interior. This car has extras such as power door locks, power windows, cruise control, and ABS.
Score: 3/5 I don't have high standards for interiors
On The Road:
As I wrote earlier, the engine makes 122 hp and 127 lbft of torque. This car had the 4 speed auto (4+1 is 4speed + overdrive). The auto box isn't top notch, and I don't like automatics much anyway, but New York City would destroy a manual transmission. I took the car on some back roads, the steering has great feedback and response, the suspension is firm but well damped, going over bumps isn't that bad and it doesn't roll much while cornering (though you do feel it because you are siting so high up.) The engine has good power, though it would be way better with a manual transmission. This car is great to drive, it puts a smile on my face every time.
Score: 17.5/20 Auto transmission brought this down massively.
Overall Verdict: 20.5/25
A very good car, fuel economy is OK, if need a family car, but need to save gas, get it. If you just want to have a blast driving, this used to be the choice until Ford finally brought the Ford Fiesta to the US, so if you want fun, or fuel economy, get the Fiesta. Once I test drive a Fiesta, I'll be able to actually tell which car is better, until then, i'll go by what I've heard.

Basic Guide to small cars in the United States
From my knowledge
For Fun:
Ford Fiesta - The little European Ford is here
40mpg hwy/30ish city
If Ford had brought the sport version along, that would have been even better, more mpg + more fun.
VolksWagen Golf GTI (Called just the "GTI" in 'merica): Great car, I don't really have to explain much here right?
Suzuki SX-4: 4WD mini-rocket with 150bhp, for the ice slope people.
For a Family Car:
Nissan Versa, no doubt the most spacious inside and it won't turn you and your kids into mush...
Golf: Obvious choice...
For Cargo:
Honda Fit, do I have to explain? Might break your bones in the city though...
If you want something that I don't like as much:
Mazda3 - A crappier version of the Ford Fiesta, basically
Mazda1 - more niche-filling by Mazda
Mazda2 - see Mazda1
Kia Rio - a couple cents cheaper than the Nissan Versa, but quite a bit smaller.
Honda Civic: It's just too common, sorry.
Kia Soul - I've heard it's a good car, but I have no idea...
Ask me for anything else I forgot to include...
